This
one was written just after Sanguinuity and in an incredibly
short period of time. It features a grand total of five instruments
(trumpet clip and tambourine from samplenet,
bass drum from Leus, and the dijeridoo I recorded, and a tubular
bell from I don't know where), and six channels. Still, it
has that mid-eastern flare that made its first listener start
belly-dancing in her office chair at work. Still one of my
favorites despite its simplicity.

This
is the backing track for a crossover song I wrote lyrics for.
I can't sing, and I don't have good recording equipment, so
the lyrics are omitted here for the listener's sake. My favorite
part is the way the dijeridoo glissando at the end sounds
just like a lawnmower powering down. . .and then backfires.
This was completely good fortune, and nothing special was
required to make it do that. Well, now I know the reason lawnmowers
backfire when you turn them off: it's part of the engine's
natural waveform.

on an Original Theme- |

This
is simply a variation on a theme I wrote for the piano. Anthony
calls it "frantic piano" and notes that it sounds
uncoincidentally like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."
Very simple (only five instruments, four channels, and 12
patterns), but still somewhat engaging.

Written
for Christmas 2003. An uptempo Frosty with a very unusual
drumbeat and a lot of tempo changes. I love the way the tambourine,
guitar, and bass mix on the "thumpity-thump-thump."
Leus thinks it sounds better with any instrument but the guitar,
but this is simple drum-n-bass, so I left it simple.

Very
simple ambient noise. This is the kind of sound that puts
me to sleep. Features a repetitive six-note riff on the marimba
(an ostinato), and three other channels of various random
nonsense. All of it is in the key of Bb, though, so it's not
like it isn't harmonic. I don't consider this "ambient
music" but like it anyway.

This
is a note-for-note translation of Joplin onto the computer.
It's one of my favorite piano pieces, and the piano sample
I have is perfect for it. I have panned the higher notes to
the right and the lower notes to the left, such that you are
standing directly in front of a piano. I did not include dynamics,
because they only take away from the flavor of the piece.
Interestingly enough, despite the size of the mp3, the track
file is tiny, as I reused patterns whenever they repeated,
and there is, after all, only one instrument.

The
title is in answer to The Who's question, because I think
certain parts of this sound somewhat like something The Who
would write. Other parts sound like The Polyphonic Spree.
I can't say much more about this except that it's really long,
really pretty, and Leus hates the distortion guitar. It is
a bit much at times, but that's the way I wanted it, so deal
with it. The basslines are very nice.

This
is video game music. The major drumline is credited to Leus,
and the beeps are inspired by him. Most people who hear this
one hate the samples but love the tune. Odd, because I love
everything about it. Don't listen to it too much, though,
it might get old.

This
is my first song written in ModPlug Tracker. It is based on
a recording I made of myself banging on the walls in my shower.
It is incredibly simple, and extremely lo-fi, but it's fun.
It's all organic. The drums are samples from the mentioned
recording. The pop is an M+M Mini's canister. The bass is
my bass. The whistle is me whistling. The "what!"
is me saying "what!" The dijeridoo is my dijeridoo.
This is the same dijeridoo recording resampled in Sanguinuity,
Suzan Gets Crunk, End of the World, 'Al Quintopiaeda, and
Leus's Characters with Lyrics. Thus, you could say work on
this one led directly to the finished product of most of my
other work.

This
one's for Suzan, the girl who put the "lust" in
"illustrious," from the guy who put the "ill"
in "skill," the "pi" in "pirate,"
and the "peyote" in "Hey, that's dope, yo!
Teach me how to rave like that!" It is the first trance
tune I ever wrote, and could be considered more a parody of
trance than true trance. It's a bit too simple in some aspects,
and it's a bit too complicated in some aspects. Overall, it
would be a great song if my samples were cleaner. It was a
good first try anyway.

This
one's for Arwen. For her birthday. It's really an agglomeration
of effects with panning all over the place and a few notes
on occasion. It has its high points though. Really, I've never
written anything like this, so I don't know what to say about
it. If anyone can think of a few more things to throw in before
the end, I'd like it to be longer, so you have my permission
to add it and send it to me.
